The first single from Swift’s much anticipated seventh album currently holds the title for fastest video by a solo artist to reach 100 million views.  The music video accumulated 100 million views in its first 79 hours online beating previous title holder Arianna Grande’s “Thank U, Next” who before had replaced Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do”. Additionally, “ME!” has also claimed the record for the most views in 24 hours, accumulating a staggering 65 million views in a day.

Swift is no stranger to record-smashing music videos. “Bad Blood” was the most viewed video in 24 hours when it was released in 2015. “Blank Space” and “Shake It Off” became the first solo female artist and solo artist to reach 1 billion views on Vevo in 2015, making Swift the second artist to do so.

The record-breaking music video was directed by Dave Meyers, a music video veteran. Meyers is responsible for some of the most iconic and award-winning music videos of the 21st century. Meyers impressive repertoire of over 132 music videos includes Missy Eliott’s “Work it”, Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble” and Arianna Grande’s “God Is A Women” to just name a few.

ME! is a fantastical, pastel-tinted, Busby Berkley musical influenced showstopper that doesn’t seem to take itself too seriously. The music video contains a plethora of secret references and clues left for her fans decode, something that Swift has become known for over her career. In an interview with People Magazine Swift noted that she purposely leaves “easter eggs” for fans saying “Its all bred from the fact that they’ve let me know over the years that they are looking for every single detail. If they weren’t interested in the details, then I wouldn’t have fun putting them in the video.”
